Find Out About The Richest Omega 3 Sources

If one wants to find out about a supplement that can benefit him in many respects, it would definitely be the Omega 3 fatty acids. They are known as essential fatty acids because our body cannot produce them and therefore, they can only be acquired through external Omega 3 sources such as fish, soybeans, olive oil or through high quality supplements.
Many expert dieticians and health professionals advise people to include these essential Omega 3 sources because doing this will protect you from the risks of various cardiovascular diseases and other ailments.
Basically, there are three different types of Omega 3s, namely EPA, DHA, and ALA. The first two types of fatty acids, EPA and DHA, can be found in oily fish sources including salmon, sardines, mackerel, and anchovies, in addition to others. ALA, on the other hand, can be found in walnuts, canola, and flax. EPA and DHA are considered the best Omega 3 sources because they are more direct, but ALA needs to be converted into either EPA or DHA, which is not an easy process, and thus ALA is less beneficial in terms of nutritional use.

EPA and DHA are important in preventing heart-related diseases, cancer and other ailments. Our brain is also dependent on DHA. People with low DHA have been found to have problems with memory loss, depression, schizophrenia, and impaired cognitive functions. Researchers have also discovered that pregnant women devoid of Omega 3 fats may deliver premature babies. One needs about 450 to 500 milligrams of Omega fatty acids per day. However, the amount may vary depending on the age of an individual and other factors and this can be determined by testing the blood of a person.
Omega 3 fatty acids can be found naturally in fish oils and olive oil. Doctors also advise that eating at least two servings of fish such as tuna, herring, trout, and salmon every week can provide enough fatty acids. In addition, cod liver oil is considered as one of the richest source of Omega 3 fatty acids and also helps reduce cholesterol levels and assist in weight loss. Walnuts are also one of the natural sources of Omega 3s that help in reducing blood cholesterol.
In addition, supplements are also available through which one can get Omega 3 fatty acids every day. It is always advised to consult a dietician or a doctor when considering a supplement. However, natural sources are always good and healthy for the body and mind. So, include Omega 3 sources in the diet and feel more energetic and healthy from the inside and prevent many illnesses as well.
