How to Bake a Delicious Apple Cake

by Finka Georgieva

Apples are not just fresh, refreshing and delicious; they are the perfect way to celebrate any occasion. Since apples are nearly always stocked in most kitchens, if you are in search of a quick bite then you can very well bake a delicious apple cake. This could be a good reminder of how thrilling it was to pick apples from your grandmother's garden. You would find them readily available at fruit stands and savour this wonderful fruit. This apple cake recipe is good especially because if you add a dash of cinnamon to this it would become a lovely red hot cake.

Ingredients
The ingredients that you would need to make the apple cake include 4 cups of coarsely diced up apples. Then you would need about 2 cups of sugar, a cup of chopped nuts and cup of cooking oil. You would also need 2 well beaten eggs, 2 cups of flour, a teaspoon of salt, two teaspoons of cinnamon, and 1 teaspoons of vanilla. Remember to preheat the oven to about 350 degrees.
Baking the Cake
First you need to mix the apples add sugar thoroughly. Then you need to add the vanilla, eggs, nuts and oil. Then take another bowl and mix the baking soda, flour, salt and the apples. Then you need to mix it well. Next, pout this apple cake mixture into a greased 9x13x2 inch pan. Next, you need to bake for an hour at 350 degrees. Otherwise, keep checking after 45 minutes to check whether the sides of the cake shrink at pan's edge. Once, it does you need to decrease the heat to about 250 degrees that is if you are using a glass pan.

Making the Apple Sauce
Now that you have baked your delicious apple cake, it would go well with a side of apple sauce. In order to make the apple sauce you would need about 6 large McIntosh or Granny Smith apples. Then you would also need cup of granulated sugar, a dash of nutmeg and a teaspoon of ground cinnamon. You'd also need cup of apple juice or cider. Once you've gathered all the ingredients you can proceed to make the apple sauce.
To make the apple sauce would have to first peel the apple and take out its core. Then cut them into chunks. After that you need to take a 3 quart saucepan and then take the apple chunks and juice or cider. Next, you need to bring this mixture to a boil. After that, you could reduce the heat and then you need to cover it. Allow it to simmer for about 20 minutes till the chunks become tender. After that you can stir in the nutmeg, cinnamon and sugar. Let it cook for 2 minutes. You need to mash it up while it is in the pot or allow it to cool and puree it in the food processor.
Now that both your apple cake and sauce are ready, you can serve the slices of the cake as you top it up with a helpful amount of apple sauce.

Understanding the Vegetarian Food Pyramid

by Sylvia J Patterso

For people who are just starting out on the path to becoming a vegetarian, getting the right mix of nutrients can be quite a challenge. That is why the Oldways Preservation Trust created the Vegetarian Food Pyramid in 1997, which was presented at the International Conference on Vegetarian Diets in Austin, Texas, that same year. The vegetarian pyramid provides an excellent guideline to help people make the right food choices in order to eat a healthy, balanced vegetarian diet. Below are a few tips on understanding the Vegetarian Food Pyramid to help new vegetarians ensure they are getting all the essential nutrients their bodies need to stay healthy and active.
Fruits and Veggies
Just like with the non-vegetarian food pyramid, the foundation of the vegetarian diet and the base of the vegetarian food pyramid is fruits and vegetables. Aim for 7-10 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables each day to ensure your body is getting a good mix of nutrients.
Whole Grains
Whole grains make up the next rung on the food pyramid for vegetarians. Whole grains may include rice, barley, millet, oats, quinoa, breads, cereals, and pasta. You should try to eat 5-8 servings of healthy whole grains every day.
Beans, Peas, Lentils & Soy
The next level of the pyramid includes beans, peas, lentils and soy-based products. Shoot for 3-6 servings of these high-protein and high-iron legumes each day.

Nuts, Seeds & Nut Butters
The next food group on the vegetarian pyramid consists of nuts, peanuts, seeds, and peanut/nut butters. It is recommended that vegetarians consume 1-3 servings of these healthy foods every day.
Herbs, Spices and Plant Oils
According to the pyramid, vegetarians may consume as many fresh or dried herbs and spices as they'd like, but should limit plant-sourced oils to up to 5 teaspoons per day.
Eggs and/or Dairy
The very top level of the pyramid only applies to certain vegetarians. Some vegetarians are lacto-vegetarians, meaning they eat dairy products. Others are ovo-vegetarians, meaning they eat eggs. Still others are lacto-ovo vegetarians, which means they eat both. These types of vegetarians should limit their egg intake to 4-6 per week and their dairy intake to 1-3 servings per day. For vegans, this top triangle of the pyramid should be omitted altogether.
There you have it - a guide to getting the right mix of nutrients when consuming a vegetarian diet. Preparing healthy vegetarian meals using the guidelines above should ensure that the vegetarian foods you're eating are balanced and nutritious. Fitness, Health and Diet Products

The past years have witnessed many developments in diet pills and weight shedding solutions. From amphetamines to the Atkins Diet, mankind has gone a long way in coming up with answers to keep healthy and fit. The Anderson Method is one of the latest developments in the weight loss field. This system uses psychotherapy to achieve long-term weight balance. Authorized psychotherapist William Anderson, MA, LMHC has used the methods to himself, enabling him to lose 140 lbs. after 25 years of being overweight.
According to the Anderson Method, there are no fatty or healthy food groups. Instead of limiting your foods and depriving your body of specific food groups, one can discipline himself or herself to consume foods at reasonable amounts. The diet you choose can be based on your tastes without compromising health and fitness. Dissimilar to other trend diet methods, Anderson ensures that this diet is one you can do for life.
The calories you eat from your weight loss plan must be based on the quantity your body uses up. Trend weight loss plans require persons to eat a calorie amount too little to match their body's energy needs. Calories are needed for one to move around and make decisions. Eating an insufficient amount will make you feel weak and unable to think properly. Though consuming less will cause a faster weight reduction speed, you'll eventually eat a large amount as soon as a large meal is presented in front of you. Eating right entails a correct perspective, having reliable weight items, and making fit choices. The Anderson method shifts a person's behavior and inspires the person to shift his or her lifestyle by eating a right amount of calories and maintaining a healthy weight.
Healthy weight loss isn't only achieved by coming up with a healthy diet. Certain people opt to have products that can speed up or enhance the weight loss method. Anderson states that a few of these diet items are unhealthy for the body. Among these are Amphetamines or "speed," which individuals consume to keep them up all night, without knowing that it can cause sudden death. Nowadays, Amphetamine is acknowledged as the illegal crystal meth drug.
The present industry provides numerous weight loss medicine choices but Anderson states that these are scams looking for fast profit. The only safe options are those recommended to obese patients. Anderson thus advises several weight loss medications that can assist in balanced and safe weight reduction. The first product is butter spray. Unlike normal butter applied to fry vegetables and meats, butter spray just inserts about 10 calories to your food. The effect is better taste minus the extra fats and calories.
The next low-fat choice is diet soda. Unlike regular soda drinks, weight loss drinks contain sugars that give your body less calories. As soon as you start engaging in physical activity, these sugars are immediately used up and gone from the body.
Taking a lot of protein will also leave you full for longer periods. The best time to have a lot of protein is during breakfast. Eating a heavy, protein-rich breakfast ensures that your metabolism runs faster for the rest of the day. This prevents you from eating in the succeeding meal. Eggs are an excellent source of fulfilling protein as it has about 75 calories. The calories in eggs have no cholesterol, providing your body with a fit source of energy. For parents, another choice is to have a low-calorie frozen dinner. Unlike fast food portions, low calorie frozen meals provide a sufficient and healthy amount of energy. These foods are perfect for individuals with no time to cook but require meals to get them through the day.
